TCP/IP Configurations for Wireless
To connect to the library's wireless Internet, the Internet Protocol settings for the wireless card need to be set to automatically obtain IP and DNS server addresses. Below are instructions for verifying this setting in two versions of Windows: Windows XP and Windows 2000:
Windows XP
1. Open the
Start menu.
2. Select the
Settings menu.
3. Select the
Network Connections menu.
4. Select the
Wireless Network option.
5. Click on the
Properties button. You will see a screen like this:
6. Make sure that the
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) line is highlighted.
7. Click on the
Properties button. You should see a window like this:
8. Make sure that
Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected.
9. Click on the
OK button.
Windows 2000
1. Open the Start menu.
2. Select the Settings menu.
3. Select the Network and Dial-up Connections menu.
4. Double-click on the wireless connection.
5. Click on the properties button.
6. Make sure that the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) line is highlighted.
7. Click on the Properties button.
8. Make sure that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected.
9. Click on the OK button.
