Today Is Denim Day
October 05, 2011
Did you know that one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime? That’s one every three minutes. In fact, it is estimated that nearly 200,000 Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011.
The library is celebrating Lee National Denim Day® today. Each employee wearing jeans and/or pink made a donation to benefit the Women’s Cancer Programs of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF).
The Women’s Cancer Programs of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) works
- to find more effective, less toxic treatments for breast cancer and increase patient access to some of the most significant clinical trials in the nation
- to support a multi-year effort led by world-class scientists to develop a blood test for earlier detection of breast cancer when survival rates are the highest, known as the EIF Breast Cancer Biomarker Discovery Project
- to fund the Cancer Support Community (CSC), an international non-profit dedicated to providing support, education and hope to all people affected by cancer. CSC provides the highest quality emotional and social support through a network of nearly 50 local affiliates, including The Wellness Community and Gilda’s Club, more than 100 satellite locations and online. To join CSC’s Online Community or find an affiliate near you, visit www.CancerSupportCommunity.org.
