The Addison Public Library has new vendors for both eBooks—3M CLOUD LIBRARY eBOOK LENDING SERVICE—and audiobooks—ONE CLICK DIGITAL from Recorded Books. We have been looking for easier ways to download eBooks and Audiobooks; we believe we have found the solutions!
eBooks
Our new eBook lender is 3M Cloud Library eBook Lending Service. Addison is the first library in Illinois to offer this revolutionary software. This new, free service begins with the latest in technology and gives us the opportunity to continue refining the product. You, the users, are encouraged to offer feedback.
3M e-books have exclusive download availability for our library’s card holders, a shorter waiting period, and are easier to download.
Now to the specifics!
- This service begins with fiction and nonfiction titles for adults, teens, and children. More titles will be added in the coming months.
- Books check out for a two-week period.
- Just like print copies, there can only be one user per eBook at a time. For multiple users, the library has to purchase multiple copies.
- Books cannot be renewed; however, you may check the title out again if no one is waiting.
- Since the books belong to the Addison Public Library alone, the hold lists are limited to other Addison Public Library card holders.
You can download eBooks through our Web site to any of the Apple products—iPad, iPhone, iTouch, etc.—to Android devices—Samsung Galaxy, Android phones, etc.—to Nook, Sony Readers, Literati, and Kobo. Unfortunately, these eBooks cannot be downloaded to Kindles. However, 3M is working with Amazon to change this situation. We will let you know as soon as 3M and Amazon resolve this issue.
To download books when you are in the library, stop by 3M's Discovery Terminal, which is located on the 2nd floor. The Adult Services staff is happy to make individual instructional/informational appointments.
Downloadable Audiobooks
Our new vendor for downloadable audiobooks is One Click Digital from Recorded Books. Accessed though our Web site, you can select from many fiction and nonfiction titles for youth and adult listeners.
- Recorded Books allows for unlimited simultaneous users.
- The collection includes core titles from Recorded Books. New titles are added on a regular basis.
- All downloads are compatible with iPods and most MP3 players.
- Books check out for 3 weeks and can be renewed once.
Once you download One Click Digital to your PC, you use this program to transfer the audio file to your portable device.
