Addison Materials Returned at the Addison Public Library
Patrons may use the following areas to return materials :
-
Our drive-up book drop is open 24 hours! Items returned before the library opens will be recorded as returned the previous workday.
-
Two indoor returns are available in the café area. You can even get a receipt! Best of all, once the items are returned inside, they are immediately removed from your account so you can get another video game and more DVDs.
-
All items may also be returned to staff at the Circulation Desk.
Addison Materials Returned at Other Libraries
Most Addison Public Library materials, except new DVDs, may be returned to other public libraries who are reciprocal partners. Items are considered returned on the date the materials are received at the reciprocating library. The patron, not the library, is responsible for the condition in which the items are received and for any items which are not delivered to the Addison Public Library.
Non-Addison Public Library Materials Returned at the Addison Public Library
Materials belonging to other libraries may be returned to the Addison Public Library for routing to the owning library if that library is a reciprocal partner. Fines for overdue items may be paid to the Addison Public Library if the owning library has agreed to such an arrangement.
The Addison Public Library does not accept any responsibility for the condition of the item, for failure of the item to reach its home destination, or for any additional fees assessed by the owning library
Interlibrary Loan items Checked out at the Addison Public Libary
Any items borrowed from other libraries but checked out at the Addison Public Library (InterLibrary Loans) must be returned to the Addison Public Library.

Books, magazines, and most audiovisual materials that are in use by other patrons (checked out) can be reserved. There is no charge for this service. Reference materials cannot be reserved. Items that are currently available in the library may be reserved for a limited time.
Reserving an item is easy! Just ask staff to assist you while you're at the Library or find the item in the catalog, click request, and login to complete the transaction.
Please be aware that the person whose library card was used to reserve materials is the only one who may pick them up.
You will need your library card number.
-
After you have located the item you want to reserve in our online catalog, click on Request.
-
If the item you want say "CHECK SHELF," the item cannot be reserved through the catalog because it is in the library. The library will hold the item for you for 24 hours if you call the Children's Desk (630-458-3338) or the Adult Services Desk (630-458-3320) and request the item.
-
Enter your library card number (all 14 digits) and PIN (contact the library if you don't know your PIN) and click on Login.
-
Review the information presented, changing options as necessary.
-
Complete the request by clicking on the Submit Request button.
Response time to requests can vary, depending on how many copies of the item we own and how many current reserves are already placed on the desired item. For information about the status of your reserve, check "My Account" in the online catalog or call Circulation staff (630-458-3326).
-
From the online catalog, click on My Account (located at the top of the page). If you did not log in using your library card number and PIN, you will need to do so now.
-
A screen with your Patron Information will appear.
-
Choose Request Outstanding.
-
Select the request you wish to cancel and click on the Cancel Selected button.
If the item you want is currently available in the library, you may call and ask that it be held for you. You will be told where you can pick up the item (at either the Adult Services Desk or the Children's Services Desk). Call-in request items will be held for 24 hours before being reshelved (this includes NEW materials as well).
To request items that the library does not own, you have three options. You may:
-
Phone the Adult Services Desk (630-458-3320)
-
Fill out the Direct Loan Request form (available at service desks in Adult and Children Departments), or
-
Place the request online (go to Interlibrary Loan)
Response time for InterLibrary Loans can vary, depending on the availability of the item and the location of the lending library. If the item cannot be obtained, you will be contacted by Library staff.
If you are the next person waiting for the item, you will be sent a notice through the mail or recieve an email that it has arrived and is being held for you at the Circulation Desk. You have 7 days from when the item was placed on hold to pick it up. Only the person whose card was used to place the reserve can pick the item up, using that same card.
If you placed an InterLibrary Loan request, you will be contacted through the mail or receive an email.
