Exploring Winter Holidays with Culturegrams

by Brittany Burns, Children's Services Associate  December 2022

December is a wonderful month full of celebrations and family time; do you know about all the different holidays that occur around this time of year? Discover all kinds of different winter holidays using Culturegrams, one of the library's many online resources!

When you check out Culturegrams, you can explore four different versions: the World Edition, which focuses on the world; the Kid Edition, which focuses on material for the young researchers; the State Edition, which focuses on each of the states in the United States; and the Province Edition, which focuses on the provinces in Canada. Both the World Edition and the Kid Edition have a lot of great information you can explore together! I like exploring by looking at the world map and clicking on an area that I want to know more about, but you can also explore different countries and regions by choosing from a list. Once you have chosen a country to learn more about, you'll see a home page of basic information, including how to pronounce basic greetings or names. On the left side of the page, there is a list of topics you can look at about the country, including Holidays!

As you tour the world, you may discover holidays you've never heard of. Or you may find that another country celebrates the same holidays that you do, but in a different way.  Grab your library card and get searching to see what holidays you can find happening this month. You’ll be amazed at what you find!
