I want to learn everything! I have always loved other languages ever since I was learning to read and discovered Spanish for the first time. If your little one is like me, they might enjoy learning a new language. A great way for kids to do this, as well as practice a language they already know, is with the online resource Muzzy Club.

Muzzy Club is a program set up by the BBC (the British Broadcasting Corporation) that you can use for free with your Addison Public Library card. Muzzy Club can teach you languages including English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Korean, and Chinese. This program exposes you to the language of your choice using stories, videos, games, and other activities that will help you grasp the language.

You start with a story called “The Big Muzzy Story” that introduces you to all of the characters: Muzzy, Princess Sylvia, the King and Queen, Corvax, and Bob. To complete the story, you complete various activities. You can do activities in any order you want, and you can always take a break and come back another day to continue where you started.  Make sure to have your library card if you want to do this at home.

My favorite feature of Muzzy Club is that if there is a word that you do not understand or remember, you can click on the magnifying glass icon and search for the word. It tells you what the word is and gives you a definition as well as a recording to help with pronunciation.

All and all Muzzy Club is a great program to start with if you ever wanted to learn a language or practice a language you are already learning. It is fun and interactive, so you never get bored and can work at your own pace. To find Muzzy Club, visit the children’s section of the research tab on our website.
