Celebrating Juneteenth 2022

Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans and celebrates African-American culture. Juneteenth has been celebrated annually on June 19 since 1865 and was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021. Juneteenth is also sometimes called Jubilee Day, Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, and Black Independence Day.

Step originated as a dance form in Africa that has evolved into a worldwide expression of rhythm and beats that incorporate modern styles of dance. More commonly, step has been seen as a tradition found on campuses of historically black colleges and universities in the late 40s and 50s and has since exploded onto competition stages across the country! Black Diamond Elite Step Team will demonstrate their stepping skills in this energetic performance.
