Congratulations to the Career Online High School Class of 2024

On Saturday, September 28, 2024, friends, family, and library staff gathered at Addison Public Library to celebrate the achievements of our Class of 2024 Career Online High School graduates, Dash and Maricela. These dedicated graduates have taken significant steps in their educational journeys, and we are thrilled to honor their hard work and success!

The Career Online High School program, offered in partnership with Smart Horizons Career Online Education, allows adult learners to earn an accredited high school diploma with career certification. The program’s flexible structure enables students to balance studies with personal and work responsibilities, making it an ideal choice for those looking to further their education on their own time.

Graduate Spotlight

We had the pleasure of speaking with Dash, who shared insights into their experience in the program:

  • What motivated you to join the program and pursue your diploma?
“I really wanted to get my diploma so that I could continue my education and find a career field that I love.”
  • How did the flexibility of the program help you balance your studies with your other responsibilities?
“It was actually pretty convenient! Being able to log in at any time made it easier to continue the program while working and being a parent.”
  • How did the library staff and resources support you during your studies, and what role did they play in your success?
“The staff were a great help! If I ever had a question or needed help, they responded pretty quickly. The library played a big part in getting me the information I needed to get things done.”
  • What's next for you?
“My plans are to continue my education.”
  • Any advice for future students considering this program?
“Just focus and don’t get too overwhelmed. Don’t give up because the time actually goes by faster than you’d think!”

Sara Lock, our Adult Services Specialist who coordinated this year’s program, shared her thoughts on working with the students:

“It is a pleasure for me to coordinate the online high school program for the library, in partnership with Smart Horizons Career Online Education. I have the privilege of interviewing potential students, getting them started in the program, and registering them for a scholarship from the library. I check in with them along the way and send them encouraging messages. I was delighted to see these two graduates enjoy celebrating their accomplishments at our graduation ceremony.”

We are proud of both Dash and Maricela for their dedication and achievements.
