How the Library Can Help You Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions

December 2018

It’s easy to make a New Year’s resolution, but they’re not always easy to keep. Luckily, your library can help you get started on your resolutions and find tools you can use to make them stick.

Resolution: Learn a Language

You can learn a new language online for free through the library’s website. Rosetta Stone works through a computer and offers 30 different languages. Mango Languages offers 71 different languages, and you can use it through a computer or through the Mango Languages app. You can also browse our books and audiobooks to find even more language training.

Resolution: Read More

You already know libraries have books, but did you know we also have eBooks and eAudiobooks? Downloadable materials are perfect for times when you’re traveling, commuting to work, or simply staying comfy at home. Need help finding a book that excites you? Ask one of our librarians for recommendations or use NoveList Plus through our website to find something new to read. Additionally, our new catalog will give you personalized recommendations through your library account! Learn more about our new catalog.

Resolution: Learn a New Skill

Have you heard about Lynda.com? Normally, you would need to pay a subscription fee to access their video tutorials, but you can acess Lynda.com for free when you go through our website and make an account with your library card number. Lynda.com offers video tutorials on topics like graphic design, management skills, social media, web development, accounting, data analytics, and more that you can use to advance your career, boost your computer skills, or simply adopt a new hobby.

Need help on a specific topic? You can Book a Tech for one-on-one training at the library in topics like Microsoft Word, email, downloading eBooks, using smartphones, and more. You’ll need your Addison Public Library card to make an appointment. Call 630.458.3354 or Book a Tech online.
