The Addison Public Library provides many in-person and virtual options for community members to improve their English. These opportunities are a fantastic way to connect with others while improving your conversation skills in a fun and engaging manner.
On Wednesdays at 7:00 PM, the library hosts an English conversation group. Each week there is a new activity to target speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English. Our group also goes on outings in the Addison area to visit places like the Addison Historical Museum, Village special events, and local restaurants. All skill levels are welcome!
We have also teamed up with Literacy DuPage to offer an online English conversation group on Mondays at 2:00 PM. For those looking to build their vocabulary, pronunciation, and reading skills in a smaller group setting ,the English Reading Circle program meets on Tuesdays at 11:00 AM.
Online classes:
- English Conversation Group – Weekly conversations to practice speaking and listening on Mondays at 2:00 PM. Led by Literacy DuPage.
In-person classes:
- English Reading Circle – Practice English skills in a relaxed, virtual environment. Classes meet in the Adult Program Room on the second floor of the Addison Public Library every Tuesday at 11:00 AM.
- English Conversation Group - A weekly space to practice and improve your English conversation skills. We meet in the Adult Program Room on the second floor of the Addison Public Library every Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
If you’re an English learner who also enjoys reading, we also recommend our ELL Books & Bites book group! This group meets every other month to read and discuss a contemporary book. Participants are provided with a copy of the selected book and dinner is provided during the group discussion. Readers will discuss the book in a fun and safe environment to practice your English reading and comprehension skills!
