The Sawgrass SG1000 is a sublimation printer. Sublimation printers are inkjet printers that use ink cartridges filled with sublimation dye. This sublimation dye, or sublimation ink, is designed to be heated and transferred into "sublimation blanks" or polyester fabric. This process is used to decorate mugs, coasters, bags, t-shirts, and more.
The sublimation printer must be used under staff supervision.
- Transfer a family photo onto a mug
- Create custom t-shirts
- Decorate ceramic coasters
- Make a 8"x10" portrait photo panel
- A Sawgrass SG1000 printer with CMYK sublimation ink.
- $0.50/mug sheet 3.5" x 9.125"
- $1.00/letter-size sheet 8.5" x 11"
- $1.50/legal-size sheet 8.5" x 14"
- Two heat presses
- Cricut EasyPress 10"x12"

- A "sublimation blank" or white polyester fabric.
- The sublimation ink will not absorb into cotton or items not meant for sublimation.
- For mugs, must be "straight-walled" mugs that are 11-15oz
- For beginners, we recommend Cricut Infusible Ink mugs.
- Michael's, JoAnn, and Amazon also sell sublimation mugs
- For shirts, bags, and other fabric items, it must be at least 65% polyester. And white or light colored.
- Note: There is no white ink in the printer. The color of your design will mix with the color of your fabric.
- There are other types of "sublimation blanks" like coasters, photo panels, journals, bookmarks, etc. Search phrases like "sublimation coaster" to find these.
- A recommended retailer is JP Plus
- A design
- Preferably a photo or JPG illustration inserted into a Microsoft Word document
- Request an appointment with the Creative Services Coordinator.
- Buy your sublimation blank from a craft store or online retailer.
- When you arrive to your appointment, have your photo or design saved to a USB or in your email. Please have your email username and password available.
- Staff will assist with printing. There are printing fees:
- Mug sheets are 3.5"x9.125" and cost $0.50/sheet
- Letter sheets are 8.5"x11" and cost $1.00/sheet
- Legal sheets are 8.5"x14" and cost $1.50/sheet
- Once the design is printed, it gets taped to your item and heated using one of the heat presses.
- Heating times range from 1-minute for shirts to 5-minutes for mugs.
- Not all items work with sublimation. Make sure your item is listed as a "sublimation blank."
- What is a "sublimation blank"? It is an item (mug, shirt, coaster) that will absorb the sublimation ink.
- Staff may refuse items to prevent damage to equipment.
- White or light colored items are recommended. There is no white ink in the printer.
- Any part of your design that is white will be the color of your item.
- The colors of your design will mix with the colors of your item. If you have a blue design going on a yellow shirt, it'll become green.
- It is very easy for sublimation transfers to blur during the heating process. Always bring extra materials in case there are mishaps.
The printing fees cover the cost of the ink. There are no refunds for printing regardless of the final product.
