The Addison Public Library is open today, Friday, September 15, 2023, after a second threat of violence this week prompted an emergency evacuation.

On Thursday, September 14, the Library received a bomb threat and active shooter threat via our online chat service at approximately 11:30 AM. The Addison Police Department was notified and immediately responded to the threat. The Addison Police Department responded to a similar bomb threat at the Library on Tuesday, September 12.

Both threats this week were determined to be unfounded by law enforcement, and all patrons, staff, and community members are safe.

We want to thank the Addison community and larger library community for their kindness, understanding, and support as we continue to navigate these challenging times together. We're proud to serve our community and offer a safe space where everyone is welcome.

Several other local libraries in Illinois have also been affected by bomb threats in recent weeks. The safety of the public and our staff remains our top priority during these times. We will continue to work with the Addison Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to keep our staff and patrons safe.

We look forward to seeing you around the Library and the community.
